Art. 1. The XXXVII Jornada Internacional de Cinema da Bahia seeks, through its contest, to exhibit new independent audiovisual productions and to reward those that are judged to be most representative in their category.
Art. 2. The competition is open to entries from Portugal and Spain, and Iberian-language-speaking countries throughout the world, which have been produced since July 2009. Producers from other countries may also take part provided that they have subtitles in either Portuguese or Spanish.
Art. 3. The competition embraces the following categories: documentary, fiction, animation and experimental. Only documentary films can be of extended length.
Art. 4. Copies of films for the competition must be submitted on 35mm. Productions should be sent in digital format: in DV-CAM/NTSC or MINI-DVD/NTSC. Recordings on DVD will be accepted for initial selection purposes. Only one recording should be included on each DVD.
Art. 5. A maximum running length of 35 minutes is accepted for each production with the exception of documentary films, where 56 minutes is the maximum permitted length. Only one film per entrant will be accepted.
Art. 6. Films and videos entered for the competition will be selected by national selection commissions. In special cases, the Jornada Directory Board may appoint selection agents directly in the participating country.
Art. 7. Films should be sent together with the completed entry form, the film-maker’s filmography, and copies of any additional material including photos.
Art. 8. The Jornada selection committee will accept entries on DVD for purposes of pre-selection only; these DVD copies will remain the property of the Jornada Archive.
Art. 9. Films selected for the competition will be accepted only on 35 mm. or on a Satellite Distribution System. Promotional videos can be submitted in mini DVD or DV-Cam.
Art. 10. All entry forms and copies of films and videos, must be delivered to the Film Festival until 30th june 2010, on the following address, and without any cost to the festival:

Art. 11. Contest Awards will be decided by an International Film Jury and an International Video Jury, comprising a maximum of 7 members each. Juries will establish assessment practices in collaboration with the Jornada Board of Directors.

b) The International Video Jury will grant the following awards:

Best Documentary Video
Best Fiction Video
Best Animated or Experimental Video
Best non-Ibero-American Video about Latin America
Best Long-Duration Video
Tatu de Prata (Silver Armadillo)
Best new comer
c) The Film and Video Juries can also grant a Special Award and an Honorable Mention. They are not, however, obliged to grant all the awards.
d) The Official Juries will also make the following awards, in Trophies or Money:
Glauba Rocha Award for the best Jornada Film
Walter Da Silveira Award for the best Jornada Video
Diomedes Gramacho Award for the best entry from Bahia
e) In the event that national or international organizations, such as SIGNIS/OCIC, should wish to grant special awards to films or videos they are invited to do so, in consultation with the Jornada Board of Directors.
The Decisions of the Juries are Final
Art. 12. General Dispositions
a) Jornada Organization will be responsible for storage costs and safety of films and videos while under its guard.
b) Expenses for remittance and return of films and videos are the responsibility of the participant except in the case of winning items, where the costs will be refunded by Jornada.
c) The Jornada Organization will endeavour to return non-award-winning films and videos within one month after the close of the event; if they so wish, participants can personally recover their entries at the end of the Festival, with the exception of prize-winning films or videos.
d) The Jornada Organization reserves the right to show short extracts of entries on TV for purposes of promoting the festival.
e) Copies of films or videos donated to the Jornada archive will only be used in non-commercial programmes, at the discretion of the directors.
f) The Jornada Organization guarantees hotel accommodation during Festival days for one (01) representative of each production in the Contest.
g) Completing and signing of a Competition Entry Form for the Film and Video Contest implies the acceptance of these regulations by the participant
Art. 13. These present regulations are provided in Portuguese, Spanish and English versions; in any case of doubt, the Portuguese version will be considered to be definitive. |
