Art. 1. The XXXVI Jornada Internacional de Cinema da Bahia seeks, through its contest, to exhibit new independent audiovisual productions and to reward those that are judged to be most representative in their category. Art. 2. The competition is open to entries from Portugal and Spain, and Iberian-language-speaking countries throughout the world, which have been produced since July 2008. Producers from other countries may also take part provided that they have subtitles in either Portuguese or Spanish. Art. 3. The competition embraces the following categories: documentary, fiction, animation and experimental. Only documentary films can be of extended length. Art. 4. Copies of films for the competition must be submitted on 35mm. Productions should be sent in digital format: Beta SP / NTSC in DV-CAM/NTSC or MINI-DVD/NTSC. Recordings on DVD will be accepted for initial selection purposes. Only one recording should be included on each DVD. Art. 5. A maximum running length of 35 minutes is accepted for each production with the exception of documentary films, where 56 minutes is the maximum permitted length. Only one film per entrant will be accepted. Art. 6. Films and videos entered for the competition will be selected by national selection commissions. In special cases, the Jornada Directory Board may appoint selection agents directly in the participating country. Art. 7. Films should be sent together with the completed entry form, the film-maker’s filmography, and copies of any additional material including photos. Art. 8. The Jornada selection committee will accept entries on DVD for purposes of pre-selection only; these DVD copies will remain the property of the Jornada Archive. Art. 9. Films selected for the competition will be accepted only on 35 mm. or on a Satellite Distribution System. Promotional videos can be submitted in NTSC Betacam/SP, mini DVD or DV-Cam.
Art. 11. Contest Awards will be decided by an International Film Jury and an International Video Jury, comprising a maximum of 7 members each. Juries will establish assessment practices in collaboration with the Jornada Board of Directors. a) The International Film Jury will grant the following awards: b) The International Video Jury will grant the following awards: Tatu de Prata (Silver Armadillo) c) The Film and Video Juries can also grant a Special Award and an Honorable Mention. They are not, however, obliged to grant all the awards. d) The Official Juries will also make the following awards, in Trophies or Money: Glauba Rocha Award for the best Jornada Film e) In the event that national or international organizations, such as SIGNIS/OCIC, should wish to grant special awards to films or videos they are invited to do so, in consultation with the Jornada Board of Directors.
The Decisions of the Juries are Final
Art. 12. General Dispositions a) Jornada Organization will be responsible for storage costs and safety of films and videos while under its guard. Art. 13. These present regulations are provided in Portuguese, Spanish and English versions; in any case of doubt, the Portuguese version will be considered to be definitive. |
